Primrose has two medicinally valuable plant parts, namely the root, which is rich in saponins, and the flowers together with their calyxes. Saponins are plant substances that can liquefy tough mucus and thus prevent inflammation. The root drug is said to be good for inflammation of the respiratory tract and for permanent (chronic) bronchitis, but it can also have positive effects on insomnia, headaches and dizziness.
