The hart’s tongue, (Asplenium scolopendrium L) belongs to the striped fern family (Aspleniaceae). Hildegard von Bingen already mentioned hart’s tongue in her writings. She recommended a hart’s tongue herbal wine, a so-called „hart’s tongue elixir“, which was said to have a positive effect on the liver, lungs and intestines.
