Comfrey (Symphytum officinale), also known as common comfrey, true comfrey, knitbone or boneset, belongs to the Boraginaceae family. The name „comfrey“ comes from the German language and indicates the use. „Bone“ referred to bones of any kind. „set“ describes the overgrowth of plant wounds and, in a broader sense, the growing together of bones. External uses are for bruises, sprains and strains. Here, preparations from the root are mainly used, but also from the herb.
