Myrrh is the dried gum resin from the trunk and branches of the myrrh tree. This tree produces the disinfectant resin to protect itself against unwelcome intruders and to seal wounds. The three wise men from the East brought myrrh as a gift for the newborn Jesus, one of the most valuable goods at that time. In ancient Egypt, myrrh was used for embalming and became the symbol of immortality. Oriental women rubbed their armpits with the tree resin to benefit from its deodorising effect and, according to tradition, the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti used an ointment containing myrrh. Due to its intensive hydrating properties, Myrrh Oil Ointment 3 % is suitable for use on demanding, rough and very dry skin. This cream improves the appearance of acne and ageing skin. Due to the disinfectant and astringent properties of myrrh, this ointment can also be used to treat small cracks and abrasions. Finally, myrrh oil has also proved effective for joint problems and pressure sores caused by prostheses.
